Pull through, Mr Rushdie, please. And write a few more pithy and devastating lines like that.
I'm old enough to remember that novel and the fuss over it. Rushdie is on the side of the angels. His attacker is just another demon. One of a large interchangeable lot.

I read the book, years ago. As I understood it, it is a work of fiction, so, as an unbeliever I could not fathom what all the fuss was about. And that, according to Islamic doctrine, is exactly the point. I do not know if there was murder in the heart of every Muslim for Mr Rushdie. And that may be another point. In any case, I suppose fanaticism is like Young's characterization of rust: it never sleeps.
