Women's Sports, and How One Identifies

I'll state a bald opinion here, open as always to correction by my readers.

The division of most organized sports activity into men's and women's events did not happen as a matter of social convention entirely. We're told that 'gender' is a social convention, and sometimes that 'sex' is one as well.

Well, no. Sex is a pre-social fact about the world.

Here's a related point: the separation of men's and women's activities should not be compared to, say the pre Jackie Robinson Major Leagues in baseball, with their deliberate separation from the "Negro League." The men/women separation in sports arises in relevant part from endocrinology.

I submit that the cyclist Rachel McKinnon, pictured above, is a cheater and a fraud. In ordinary life, I'm happy to call that cheater and fraud "Rachel," and allow her to identify any way she wishes. But to win an award in a woman's sport by trading off one's "identity," and one's [male] endocrinology, is bogus.
