The Power of Social Media

People worry about the social media -- it is a creator of conformism and deadening consensus, it is a scene of bullying, it is a distraction from productive activity, it is a weapon for spies, both foreign and domestic. And so forth.

All of those concerns may have weight. But it has to be said: social media can get great things accomplished.

These accusations even have some people in the world of academic philosophy saying that instructors in that world should try to avoid teaching Searle's views. That is an odd contention, and has given rise to heated exchanges in certain corners of the blogosphere.
