It is good to encounter a conflict in which I'm still in full sympathy with Rand Paul.

It is curious, isn't it: politicians will waffle over fundamental constitutional principles and questions when confronted with argument over thorny issues and, consequent utility in taking an opposing view? It has long seemed to me that Mr. Paul's (the younger) party of choice has not been staunch defender of free speech. Or, association. Or much of anything else that challenges a conservative status quo. Contextual reality changes things.
